Femmes assises sous le couteau
En Bambara signifie "se faire exciser"
Laurence Petit-Jouvet
1995 - 26 min - Vidéo - Couleur - France

Coumba Touré, a fifty year old woman from Mali, is one of these women who were painfully marked by excision who devote their whole life to saving their sisters from the same fate. Her work, in permanent contact with the Africans in areas of the Paris suburbs where she lives, consists in listening and convincing.
The characters in the film, men, women, adolescent boys and girls, react each in their own way to the question of excision and beyond that to the mutations of African society. While the film was being made they all seemed to have a feeling of importance towards this film, therefore they gave it their most intimate words.
