Here, in the Horn of Africa, the Earth has begun major reconstruction work : it is opening up a new ocean in the middle of a continent. From the heart of this future sea rises the Erta'Ale volcano.
Now, for the first time, a team of tectonicians and volcanologists are to travel here by caravan then climb on foot to the caldera. By an amazing chain of circumstances, this depression 120 metres below sea level has remained in the open and allows us to see things that generally happen at the bottom of the sea.
