Children of Beirut

How can I possibly define, today, my relationship with places and objects of a city that is in a continuous state of perdition?
While interviewing my father Nader, a public sector employee, regarding his involvement in the reconstruction phase of post-civil war Beirut, and trying to capture his recollections of that time, I film Dalieh, a unique area on the coast of Beirut that will perish.
My camera accompany its habitants and fishermen on their journey, from their daily lives and routines until their expulsion.
The downtown area that was once the playing field of my father and his generation is today completely reconstructed and privatized. Dalieh is alas the last public sphere where Beirut’s inhabitants could be mesmerized by its sea.
But both have been appropriated by the same political family. Now we still have time to savour Dalieh, what remains of our city.
