EA! An Andalusian Mantra
Henri Belin
2022 - 110 min - Vidéo Full HD - Couleur et Noir & Blanc - Espagne, France

Embodying what’s been called “the new flamencos”, the EA! have invented, right from the beginning, a nomadic music nourished with the fusion of flamenco, jazz and rock’n’roll as well as with North and Sub-Saharan African rhythms that came through the Strait of Gibraltar. Fiercely fond of their independence, Pilar La Mónica and Juan Madrera, who are a couple, work in a spirit of self-sufficiency, producing their music at home without being concerned about commercial spin-offs. This artistic quest is inextricably linked to their history and to their fringe way of life in the “cortijo” they’ve built themselves in the middle of the swamps of the Bay of Cádiz. There, among the hens and the horses who live in this wind-battered strip of land, the EA! persist as mavericks, combining daily family life, contemplative connection to nature and musical research. Conceived as an intimate portrait of a group at work, this film is the story of this musical and human experience, of this quest in which music and songs reflect an inner landscape, reveal a view of the world, inspire their performers’ transformation, in turns.
