"The most important thing, my girl, is to love the music inside yourself, not yourself in the music", says a down-on-her-luck street musician to Aigul, a simple farmer’s daughter with dreams of a singing career in the big city. In her remote Kazakh village, gifted Aigul makes a chance encounter with a small mustached man who carries on his bicycle a plastic bag full of promises. With its cast of non-professional actors, Dreamistan is a cross between fairytale documentary and non-fiction fantasy.
