Devenir un homme en Mélanésie
Jérôme Segur
2003 - 52 min - Vidéo - Couleur - France

The perilous path of young boys who must submit to daunting rites of passage to become an adult. Success will give them a status and new responsibilities in their tribe. But that success is not guaranteed; if they fail, they will remain children in the eyes of their community. To achieve adulthood status, Junior and Charles, on the island of Kontu in Papua, must capture a shark using only a propeller rope, while Wabak, Sali and Telcon, on the Ile Pentecôte in Vanuata, must jump from the top of a wooden tower with creepers around their ankles. Two different ordeals for a common goal: to become a man... Will they succeed?
