Émile Gallé Série-Collection : L' École de Nancy, il y a 100 ans...

1997 - 26 min - Betacam - Couleur - France

100 years ago... Émile Gallé (1846-1904) became the emblematic figure of the Nancy School and one of the theoreticians of the international Art Nouveau movement.
His passion for art, nature and science are brilliantly associated in his glass work.
"Demoiselles de verre" reveals to us some of his most significant creations : dragonfly vases, "sadness" vases ; the Pasteur vase that brings together three of the greatest names of the 19th century : Émile Gallé, Louis Pasteur and Victor Hugo ; the thistle vase with the heraldic symbol of the town of Nancy, which plunges us into the atmosphere of the 1900 Universal Exhibition in Paris and reveals Émile Gallé's great mastery of his art.
Fantastic worlds appear from a few square millimetres of matter, just like the work of a glass craftsman.
The authors, using the work of committed researchers, shed light on the personality of this multiple artist and upset some preconceived ideas...
