Chypre outragée

"Cyprus outraged", Cyprus became an independent state on August 16, 1960. On 20 June 1974, Turkey invaded Cyprus and occupied 38% of the country. After the fall of the Berlin wall in 1989, Nicosie was the last remaining capital of Europe to be divided in two separate, military-enforced zones.
Turkey does not have the means to invest in the area that they occupy and their military presence is very costly. The South, governed by the legal Cyprian government, satisfies the criteria of the Maastricht treaty, and their joining the European Union is a decisive factor in the reunification of the country.
In this way, the Cyprian exiles, both Greek and Turkish, might be able to reintegrate their land and their villages, and to live together, whichever part of the country they choose to live in.
