Saint-Chamas is a village on the banks of the Étang de Berre, just a short distance from two towns that are in the hands of the extreme right.
One market day, a group of sandwich men and women, beating tom-toms, wander between the stalls among the people.
This is the election campaign of 1998. Coming from various backgrounds, the members of the "Citizens’ collective of Saint-Chamas" break the silence and put forward their worries, with the will to engage in politics with a difference.
For a whole year the camera follows the group. More than a witness, it becomes an accomplice in their actions. Among the many other associations in the region, the collective aims to defend democratic, republican ideas.
It is a good opportunity to meet and talk.
