Bienvenue en Colombie
( Bienvenidos a Colombia )

Catalina Villar
2002 - 65 min - DV Cam - Couleur - France, Colombie

Two millions people displaced, 1 million Colombians who have been migrating for five years, 35 000 murders per year, 70 000 antipersonnel mines scattered all over the country, a kidnapping every ten minutes : Colombia is the theatre of one of the most tragic war of our time. You can always say who is to blame : narco-traffickers, guerrilla war, paramilitary, government and the military, the United States. But all these ‘faults’ are terribly linked. And today, the state has lost any power and legitimacy. This is in such a context that a new election time opens, a shady period during which Catalina Vilar will try and sort out the extreme complexity of her country’s situation. Actress in her film, she is one of its main threads. Facing doubts, she fiercely clings to any possible solution. She wonders and questions. From Cauca to the Pacific Coast, from Caguan to Bogota, she travels through Colombia. And through questionings and meetings, she gets closer and closer to the reality of her country.
