Au-dessus des volcans
Séverin Blanchet
2000 - 52 min - Digital vidéo - Couleur

Over the Volcano is a look at the scientific and human aspects of volcanoes. In Papua, New Guinea, the Bismarck Sea and the islands around it have had intense volcanic activity. On land, Rabaul, a town smothered under the ashes of 1994, is determined to live despite the eruptions which occur every fifty years around its bay. The history of a family in the region helps us understand the stakes involved in its inhabitants returning.
In the sea, a Franco-Japanese mission is studying volcanoes off Rabaul's coast.  The Nautile submarine dives in search of hot springs, sites of mysterious beauty whose activity is linked to volcanoes. With scientists, we will discover why the region bears witness to such intense volcanic activity.
