Patrick Glaize
2000 - 52 min - DV Cam - Couleur - France

Orquesta Aragon, "The Ambassador of Joy" as it became known in 1953, is a living legend. The oldest band in Cuba still in existence is now celebrating its sixtieth anniversary.
With over 400 themes in its repertory, Orquesta Aragon has performed in Moscow, Ho Chi Minh City, Conakry, Cairo..., and has lived through Cuba's History and histories. Through their 1999 European tour, a return to the Cuban source with the musicians, and original archive footage, the film relates the intertwining history of a band and the country it was born and grew in : the myths and realities of Cuban history via its foremost cultural ambassador. To music, of course.
