"Après" (After), is a journey, close to ten years later, in Rwanda. The director has left alone with his camera, with the a priori that he didn’t know, that he had everything to discover, that the movie would build itself up on an encounter with a country, its people and its culture.
This is “Après”: firstly, the reconstruction of the inconceivable truth as it can only be told by the survivors and also orphans who practice traditional dancing and their mentor, Déo, survivor himself who takes us to his native hill to meet elders. They take us back to the history of a civilisation, cattlemen and farmers’ people. And now, still with Déo, journeyman and translator, link between two worlds, the film is moving towards prisoners convicted with genocide and an almost frightening wedding...
A journey like a stretched out net, because travelling in Rwanda is agreeing to get trapped in the one and only demand that is understanding.
