Angélique Kidjo - L'Amazone Série-Collection : World Collection

Pascal Signolet
1997 - 52 min - Vidéo - Couleur - France

This documentary is an impressionist portrait of Angélique Kidjo, a singer from Benin. We follow her as she visits Africa after an absence of 13 years.
Some lives can be read in the palm of a hand. Others can be deciphered in a person's gaze or in the special way they move. Angélique Kidjo's whole life is in her voice.
An impressionist portrait, since each point is not just a dab of colour but also the sound straw, the brush of palm fronds, the crack of a hand beating on a drum.
An introspective portrait, sensual, drawing us away from a certain imagery of Africa and immersing us in Angélique Kidjo's traditions and moods. A portrait which gives us an insight of this Africa seen through the eyes and supported by the voice of one of its daughters whose motherland is always celebrated in her work.
