Deux Actes d'une histoire de famille
Sophie Kotanyi
1996 - 78 min - Betacam SP - Couleur - Allemagne, Belgique
I was three and a half years old when we left Hungary. I don't have any memories of that time. My parents were members of a circle of intellectuals and modern artists, who were grouped around three Hungarian philosophers ; during the era of Stalinism they could carry on their religious and philosophical investigations only in a very close private circle and by using debates about mathematics as a code medium. 40 years after our flight we visit Hungary with my family, seeking the trace of our life before and during the revolution.
This film shows decisive moments of the Hungarian history between 1945 and 1956 through archive footage and through the focus of the personal memories of the family members. Today the family members live scattered in different European cities, scattered between different languages as well as cultures. "Home" has a different meaning for each one of them.
