This film traces the history of independent Algeria from 1962 to 1995, from the war of independence to the civil war.
Independence in July 1962 and the struggle for power until Ben Bellah in 1963 - agrarian reform, self-management, the role of the Party and the army in the reconstruction of the country, Boumédienne’s putsch in 1965 - nationalizations, industrialization, Arabization and Islamic seminaries, the role of leader of the non-aligned and developing countries are the main themes of the first episode which ends in 1975.
Much space is devoted to social success, the evolution of mentalities and the underground rise of Islamism.
