Ainsi soit-il !
L'Énigme du suaire de Turin
Didier Lannoy
1998 - 45 min - Couleur - France

The shroud of Turin: a piece of linen bearing the mark, fixed on the cloth like a photographic negative, of a man who had been scourged and crucified. The shroud of Turin deserves the appellation of archeiropoietic image (not made by man). It appeared for the first time in the mid 14th century in the little collegiate church of Lirey in Champagne. It was soon venerated as a relic of the Passion of Christ and has, ever since, been provoking the fervour of believers and the curiosity of scientists. A few months before the 1998 showing, the debate is not closed.
Taking advantage of the enormous craze that the relic sets off, the film intends to testify to the mentality of believers and the sometimes desperate attachment of the faithful to giving some shape to their faith.
