Adieu Bakou
Jacques Debs
1994 - 52 min - Betacam SP - Couleur - France

Since 1988, Azerbaidjan and Armenia have been fighting for the control of High-Karabakh.
Until 1989, Bakou, capital of Azerbaidjan, was spared by the war. It is a cosmopolitan city inhabited by Azeri Muslims, Russians, Jews and Armenians.
In January 1990, the big Armenian community suffered pogroms : over 80 people were killed in one week.
January 20, 1990, the Soviet army took Bakou to stop the killings. On that night, the army fired into the crowd. There were more than 150 killed, mostly Azeris. By fear of reprisals, Armenians started leaving the city massively.
These events were the starting point of the European series of ethnic purification.
