The West is where the sun goes down, and thus a place of darkness. Taking inspiration from this metaphorical classical notion, the filmmaker uses an unrelenting montage of sceneries to depict the condition of modern Europeans, who are held captive, from birth to death, in an internment-camp-like structure they themselves have created.
