Abbas Kiarostami takes us in his four-wheel drive for a trip from Teheran, where he lives, to the Guilan region, where he usually makes his films, more than 400 kilometres from the capital. The places he passes through are rich in contrasts ; from the Americanized streets of the capital to the winding roads of the foothills of the Alborz which lead us to the serene landscapes of the North.
Kiarostami talks about his life as a film-maker. He recounts his childhood in Teheran and tells us about his constant search for "the truth that hides behind reality". Thanks to him we discover the permanent conflict between an old Oriental civilization that is soaked in spirituality and uncertainty and the awkward cult of technology, the certainties of power...
Throughout this journey, improvised meetings with actors testify to how attached the film-maker is to the Person before the Character. But that never excludes acting.
