Legendary Californian surfer, Mickey Dora, invented they myth of the rebel surfer and then disappeared. The filmmaker picks up the trail of "Da Cat" in Malibu. His search takes us on a journey up the California Mekong to find the "heart of darkness" of the archetypal outlaw surfer.
Along the way, we encounter an assortment of surfers, characters and casualties. As we get closer to Da Cat, we discover that his actions are becoming more and more bizarre. Do they reflect a man suffering from illusions of grandeur ? Or is it that his rebel image resides at the true heart of surfing ?
