Oh Pleasures
You only have to consult any dictionary of quotes to observe that the word "pleasure" conjures up God knows how many entries. The spectrum runs broad from Jules Renard to Oscar Wilde, from whom I can retain this quip: "Pleasure is the only thing to live for. Nothing ages like happiness."
I would like, modestly of course, to add a little contribution to this anthology that has not yet been recorded: "To the pleasure of not seeing you..." Radio is, amongst other things, that: not seeing, not being seen...
Everything you will hear expresses pleasure or pleasures: whether it be of marine weather (to the ears of navigators) or of libertine readings or again of childhood memories, kitchen recipes, bicycle rides, diverse addictions without forgetting - an "involuntary" pleasure - the burst of laughter that the journalist cannot control and which turns contagious.
YES! The pleasures of radio are incomparable. And not to be confused with happiness, for as Jean Servais said at the end of Max Ophuls' film Le Plaisir (and you will pardon me this second quote): "Hey, my friend, happiness is not gay!"
